Puffy Memorial Underway At Berkshire Bird Paradise

August 1, 2014 By eastwickpress

Stonework on the new entryway to the Berkshire Bird Paradise has been completed. "We're waiting for a crane to place the huge slab of cement across the top," said Bird Paradise Director Peter Dubacher. Alan Webster has worked for months putting gigantic stones in place to create nooks and crannies for the rock pigeons that will reside in the completed structure, which also has a waterfall and Koi pond. The project is the result of a $100,000 donation by a New York City woman who loved a rock dove/pigeon named Puffy. When Puffy died his owner wanted a memorial built in his name. The structure, which has bird viewing sites in the cinder blocks, was designed by Dave Sadowsky Architect of Petersburgh. It will have a retractable enclosure, passive solar thermal control with trombe wall and wind powered electricity. Debaucher expects it will be completed by the fall. (Bea Peterson photo)
