Reynolds Foundation Gives $12,000 To Community Organizations

August 15, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson

On Monday, August 4, Reynolds Foundation Board Members Norma Brenenstuhl, Robert Becker, James Monahan, Armand Rousseau and William Shiland presented checks amounting to $12,000 to the Town of Hoosick Community Band, the Town of Hoosick Historical Society, the Hoosick Area Church Association Food Pantry, the Hoosick Falls Girl Scout Service Program, the Hoosick Falls Day Camp, the Cheney Library Children’s Reading Program, the Wood Park Residents Association and to the Reynolds Foundation in reserve for later disbursement.

[private]Speaking on behalf of the Foundation, Bill Shiland told the recipients that they do a great job of making Hoosick and Hoosick Falls a better place. He commended them for their service.

Rev. Edith Craig Reynolds was extremely generous to Hoosick and Hoosick Falls in her lifetime. Though Town Historian Phil Leonard is always quick to point out that she was generous with her late husband’s, Marcus T. Reynolds, hard earned money. Many still remember her generosity. Newspaper clippings note a $5,000 donation to the Youth Baseball field, $13,000 to buy Hoosick a fire truck, $5,000 to the Rescue Squad and $15,000 for the Town Pool. These are just a few of the donations she made. Walk anywhere in the Village and there are marks of her generosity, including the skating rink. There are the annual scholarships to High School graduates as well.

Though, according to the Board, the account keeps changing hands in the bank where the funds are, her generosity continues to benefit the community she loved.

Gathering at the Louis Miller Museum on Monday, August 4, were Reynolds Foundation Board Members Robert Becker, Armand Rousseau, William Shiland, HACA President Rev. Michael Benoit, Historian Phil Leonard, Wood Park Residents Representative Jane Winegard, Community Band and Cheney Library representative Bill Gaillard, Hoosick Falls Girl Scout Service Program representatives Anna and Samantha Brewer, Board Members James Monahan and Norma Brenenstuhl and Hoosick Falls Day Camp representative Harold Stevens.
