Instrument Donations Needed For Berlin Elementary School

September 26, 2014 By eastwickpress

At Berlin Elementary School over 90% of students in fourth and fifth grade are taking instrumental music lessons. Many students have begun lessons on recorders, an inexpensive plastic flute that helps beginners develop fundamental music skills. However, due to financial hardships, about 25 students cannot begin lessons on traditional band instruments such as flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet or trombone. Keyboards are also accepted as donations, as we include keyboards in our band program.

[private]If anyone has an instrument sitting unused under a bed, in a closet or attic, etc., we ask that you consider donating it to the Berlin Central School District to help support our students and our growing music program. Instruments given to the school will be evaluated and given a dollar amount. The donation will be tax deductible for the year in which it is given. A letter will be provided by the District Clerk upon acceptance of donated item(s) by the Board of Education.

Studies have proven that musical instruction helps children with reading, math and problem solving skills in addition to providing great pleasure from personally making music. Please help us to give this opportunity to all students, regardless of economic status.

If you can help, please contact: Josh Greenberg, Berlin Elementary School Band Director, 518-658-2127, or email, jgreenberg@berlincentral.org.
