Janet K. Rogers

Stephentown – Janet K. Gill Rogers, 69, passed away Monday, September 8, 2014, at the Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield, MA. Born in Port Chester, NY, on April 7, 1945, Janet was the daughter of the late Norman and Elizabeth Wright Gill. Janet was raised in Greenwich and Stamford, CT, and also lived on Long Island, NY, and most recently in Stephentown, NY.

ob-rogers janet.jpegJanet loved being a mother raising her children. She also was a horticulturalist and master gardener. She was an accomplished hiker, and, from April 1 to July 4 of 2013, she hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to West Virginia covering over 800 miles. In June of 2014 she hiked over 140 miles from Massachusetts to Connecticut. She also enjoyed cross country skiing, yoga and traveling with her husband. Most recently, she was employed by Nejames Wine & Cheese Store in Lenox, MA, where she made gift baskets.

She is the beloved wife of Edward J. Rogers, devoted mother of Curtis and wife Nellie Darragh of Connecticut, Noalee Darragh and Karl of Ridgefield, CT, Christian Darragh of Stephentown, Shawn and wife Donna Darragh of Florida and Lacey Kollhopp of Stephentown, stepmother of Daniel and wife Sara Rogers of Berlin, sister of Richard and wife Judy Gill of New Fairfield, CT, and Virginia and husband Raymond Haviland of Amenia, NY. Janet is also survived by several loving grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

The funeral service is Friday, September 12, at 11 am at the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY43, Stephentown, with Rev. Susan Schultz officiating. Interment will follow in Garfield Cemetery, Stephentown. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rensselaer Land Trust, 415 River Street, Troy, NY, 12180, or www.renstrust.org.
