Cindy A. Gentner

Petersburgh – Cindy Ann (Crandall) Gentner, 55, died suddenly Friday, October 17, 2014, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. Born in Cambridge, NY, on October 5, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Joseph B. Crandall and Trevah Yerke Crandall Burdick and the stepdaughter of the late Stanton Burdick. Cindy was raised in Petersburgh, NY, and Grafton, NY. and was a 1977 graduate of Berlin High School. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) through the BOCES program at school.

ob-gentnerCindy was employed as a LPN for over 30 years beginning at the former Leonard Hospital in Troy, NY. She also worked for the Eddy, the Vermont Veterans Home and was the school nurse at the Stephentown Elementary School. She later did home care for Apria Health Care and for the past ten years was employed by Accu-Care in Albany, NY.

Cindy liked to sew, cook and bake and was known for telling it like it is. But what she loved more than anything was being a grandma and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was the beloved wife of David J. Gentner, whom she married on May 19, 2012, in Cherry Plain, NY, the loving mother of Heather M. and husband Chris Hicks-Alderman of Berlin, NY, the stepmother of Lenore M. Gentner and Bryon of Albany, Diane L. Gentner of Ohio, David J. Gentner, Jr. of Petersburgh and Katherine A. Gentner and Roarke of Minnesota, adored grandmother of Haley M. Hicks, Jonathan M. Hicks, Christopher J. Alderman, Jr., Kimberly Ann Alderman and Zachary K. Alderman, sister of Wendy and husband Bob Bly of Grafton and half-sister of Rebecca and husband Erwin Greene and of Victoria and Donna Burdick, both of Grafton. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends called at the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm, followed by the funeral service at 7 pm with Diane Mosher officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation, 3 Washington Square, Albany, NY, 12205.
