The Music and Art Café at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center will present Curragh on Saturday, November 1, at 7 pm. Curragh is a group of seasoned musicians, Peter Jones, fiddle, Hilary Schrauf, fiddle, bodhran, and vocals, Eric Everson, bouzouki and guitar and Kara Doyle, Uilleann pipes and penny whistle, who have played throughout New York and surrounding locations for over twenty years. Their programs present the best in Celtic music with jigs, reels, hornpipes, airs, set dances and waltzes.
The band takes its name from the word for a traditional boat from the west coast of Ireland, usually made of animal skin or canvas stretched over a wooden frame.
November 1 is Celtic New Year (Samhain), and Saturday night we will celebrate with dancing, costumes and merrymaking. Costumes are encouraged but not required, and a prize will be awarded for the most original. Join us for a magical musical evening with homemade organic desserts by chef Justin Rice of Starry Ridge Farm.
Admission costs $5 per adult. Those under 18 are admitted free courtesy of the Stewart’s Shops Holiday Match Grant.
