HFCS Field Hockey Mowing ‘Em Down

The HFCS girls field hockey team kept mowing down its opponents this week as it moved through the regular season.

The first victim to run into the Panther buzz saw was North Warren.

The Panthers made the trek to the other side of Lake George last Wednesday to face the Patriots. Liz Ryan broke the ice in the first half with a goal on an assist from Lillian Hickey. In the second half, Ally Burdick got the goals, and Maddy Ryan got the assists as the pair teamed up for two second half goals. Panther goalie Cassie Sherman had an easy day of it as North Warren didn’t get a shot on goal. Patriot goalie Morgan Yarosh stopped seven shots at her net.

Friday the Ladies hopped back on the bus for the one hour, twenty minute trip to Corinth. Once the game began, the trip was quickly forgotten, and the Panthers dispatched another victim. The Warriors did score a goal, no minor thing for a Panther opponent. The problem for the Warriors was that by the time they scored the Panthers were up 3 – 1 with time running out.

Caytlyn Springer had gotten the Panthers on the board with an unassisted goal in the first half. In the second half, Ally Burdick scored with help from Liz Ryan less than ten minutes in. With less than one more minute gone in the game, Liz Ryan again provided the assist, this time to Springer for her second goal. Goalie Cassie Sherman had one save, Warrior goalie Kaylee Mosher had seven saves on the day.

On Wednesday the team logged more bus time when they again made a long trip, this time to Warrensburg. The long trips seem to suit them just fine as the Panthers outscored the home team 3 – 2.

Hoosick Falls has outscored opponents 60 – 4. The Panthers’ record is now a fantastic 14 – 0 overall and 9 – 0 in league play.

With the regular season coming to a close, only two games remain and both will be at home. On Friday, October 10, the Ladies host Greenwich. On Wednesday, October 15, the team will play Granville. Both games are scheduled to begin at 4:15. This is a great team to watch play the game and well worth the visit to see them.
