by Bea Peterson

At the Town of Hoosick Board meeting on Thursday, October 16, the Board scheduled two public hearings to be held on Monday, November 10. The first, which pertains to Local Law #3 of 2014, the new proposed home owner Property Maintenance Law, will be held at 6 pm. The second pertains to the Town’s Site Plan Review Law, which will be changed in its entirety. That hearing will begin at 6:30 pm.

At its next regular meeting, following the Public Hearings, the Board will vote to eliminate the Family Subdivision law.

Board members approved the bid of $43,567.56, with trade, from Carmody Ford for the purchase of a 2015 Ford F550 pickup truck. They will now advertise for a 10 foot plow and a nine foot flat bed to go with it.

The Board passed Resolution #93 declaring it will bond part of the pool repair expense.

Property Cleanup

Town Building Inspector Ed King said he has the go ahead to demolish the trailer and clean up the property of Walter Quell, at 26 Brenenstuhl Road.

Debbie Green, owner of the abandoned property next to the school at 21169 NY 22 has agreed to clean up the property and make the building safe. However, the abandoned property on the other side of the school is owned by a bank, and King is still trying to find out which bank owns it.

Free Skating

The Board approved acceptance of a check for $300 from the Hoosick Falls Kiwanis Club to cover the cost of free ice skating at the rink during the February school break.

Kaila Matatt Appointed Rink Director

Tom Margiotta wishes to back away from some of his responsibilities at the rink. The Board approved the appointment of Kaila Matatt as Rink Director. The Board also approved opening the rink on Mondays and Tuesdays for special events only. Wednesdays and Thursdays the rink would be open from 3:30 to 5:30 pm, with three open sessions on Saturdays and two on Sundays, perhaps making the session from 12:30 to 2:30 pm free on Saturday. Margiotta said he wanted to check with the skating club to see if skating lesson sign up could take place right after Thanksgiving so that all the lessons can be completed in a season, taking into consideration that some days the ice might not  be good. Students and coaches from Hoosac School are looking forward to hosting a hockey clinic at the rink again this year.

Rink Staff And Lifeguards Wanted

Those interested in working at the skating rink this winter or working as a Life Guard at the pool next summer need to submit a job application to the Town Clerk’s office by November 30.[/private]
