Panther Boys Soccer – Gaines On A Scoring Streak

October 17, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley

The HFCS boys soccer team participated in the Maple Hill Tournament last Saturday and Monday. Things did not go well for the boys. Saturday they played Maple Hill in the first round, falling 3 – 0 to the hosts. In Monday’s consolation game against Christian Brothers Academy, the Panthers grabbed a 1 goal lead but couldn’t hang on as the Panthers fell 2 – 1. Tyler Gaines scored the lone goal for the Panthers, and Noah Chani recorded nine saves. CBA’s goalie recorded two.

The Panthers were right back at it Tuesday afternoon against Greenwich at Delurey Field. In a battle of two equal teams, neither team could find the net in the first half. Each team had chances, but nice goaltending by both goalies kept anyone from getting a score. Halfway through the second half, Tyler Gaines got a shot on goal that the Witches’ goaltender made a nice save to stop. Unfortunately for the goaltender the ball bounced back out, and Gaines then got a clean shot to give the Panthers a goal. That goal turned out to be all that was needed for the 1 – 0 win. Panther goaltender Josh McCart and Witches goaltender Chris Robertson each had four saves.

With the two games remaining on the regular season schedule, the Panthers face Granville Thursday afternoon, October 16, at 4:15 pm. The game will be played at home in Hoosick. Saturday, October 18, at 11:30 am, the team will face Stillwater High School on Delurey Field in Hoosick.
