Sale of the former Dave’s Market in Stephentown is in progress, but it is not known whether another food market will be taking over the property. According to Rudy Lynch, Associate Broker at Carrow Real Estate Services, the property is “under contract.” The sale has not yet been finalized and may not be for another 30 days. Lynch could not disclose the identity of the buyer or the dollar amount of the sale. The asking price was $399,000.
[private]Carrow is selling the property on behalf of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, a federal agency, part of whose mission is to manage receiverships. The property was foreclosed upon under the previous owners, Alpesh and Paresh Patel who owned and operated the store from 2008 to 2011.
The property sits on about 3.2 acres and includes a gas station, market, liquor store and a three-bedroom residence.
Dave’s was started as Dave’s Minimarket in 1973 by Dave Desormeaux who took over a tiny grocery store that had been built in the early fifties by Ulysses Sweener for Arthur Stevens. Desormeaux continually expanded the store over the years, renaming it Dave’s Supermarket in the early 1990s.
