Wyatt Jesse Haley

Stephentown – Wyatt Jesse Haley passed away peacefully at home in Stephentown, NY, on October 23, 2014. He was 86.

ob-haley1.jpegBorn on April 6, 1928, in Stephentown, Wyatt was the son of the late Jesse and Frederica Launt Haley. He graduated from Averill Park (NY) High School and Cobleskill (NY) College of Agriculture and later served in the U.S. Army. He loved the land and farmed until going to work at Niagara Mohawk and then Taconic Telephone, from which he retired after 33 years of service.

Always active in his community, Wyatt was a 50 year member of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department, serving as a Fire Commissioner and on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Stephentown Area Veterans Association.

Wyatt is pre-deceased by the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Dorothy Barnes Haley, and is survived by his sons, Frederick and Neil, as well as three grandchildren, Jesse, Elise and Alexander.

A special thank you goes to the wonderful people from Community Hospice and to the many friends who came to “sit a spell” with Wyatt.

A memorial service is to be held on Thursday, October 30, at 7 pm at the Church of Our Savior on Route 22 in Lebanon Springs, NY, with Rev. Canon Clinton Dugger officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday prior to the service from 6 to 7 pm in the Fellowship Hall at the Church, and a reception will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be private in the Hillside Cemetery in West Stephentown, NY.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Rensselaer, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY, 12144, or to the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department, 396 State Route 43, Stephentown, NY, 12168.

Arrangements are by the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home in Stephentown. A condolence book can be accessed at ParkerBrosMemorial.com.
