A Tough Way To Start The Day
by Steve Bradley
At 8 o’clock Wednesday morning, a local woman driving a sport utility vehicle pulled out of the old Falls Motel parking lot across Rt. 22 from HFCS and drove into the path of an oncoming southbound tractor trailer. [private]The car crashed into the front corner of the Indiana registered truck, taking out the left front wheel and puncturing the port side fuel tank, causing diesel fuel to spew across the entire width of the southbound lane. The truck careened off the road and slid in the grass for approximately 100 feet, coming to a stop completely off the road. Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash. The truck appeared to be traveling at relatively low speed for that area indicated by the short distance from the point of contact to the stopped location.
The Hoosick Fire Department and NY State Police responded to the scene. Hurley’s Garage of Melrose removed the damaged vehicles from the scene. The NY Department of Environmental Conservation was called, and an environmental clean-up company was dispatched to the scene. The company spent hours Wednesday afternoon removing diesel fuel and motor oil from the soil.
