November 7, 2014 By eastwickpress

Hoosick Falls – Eva Mary Fleming, 86, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center with her family by her side. She resided on Saratoga Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, and was the wife of the late David B. Fleming.

Born on June 7, 1928, in Hoosick Falls, Eva was the daughter of the late Fred and Eva (Gibbons) Motsiff. She graduated from Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls. Eva worked for New York Telephone in the Hoosick Falls office as an operator and later in the Hoosick Falls Central School cafeteria.

Eva was well known for her love of life and her indomitable spirit with friends from every generation, occupation and situation. She could be found at the casino, at the track or at the Health Center visiting a friend. She played cards with 20-somethings, helped set up football pools with 40-somethings and shared gossip with 80-somethings. Eva enjoyed following “her” New York Mets and “her” Pittsburgh Steelers.

Eva enjoyed games of chance, bowling, ping pong and shopping, and she belonged to several card clubs. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, of the Health Center Auxiliary, a Lifetime Member of the St. Stanislaw Society, of the Elks Auxiliary, and she was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Survivors include her children, Mary Beth and husband Richard Dickinson and David and wife Sharon Fleming, her sister, Nelma Motsiff, all of Hoosick Falls, her grandchildren, Carly, David and Rachel Dickinson and Matthew, Jason and Molly Fleming, as well as several nieces and nephews. Eva is pre-deceased by three sisters, Addie Kjelgaard, Clara Salluzzo and Gladys Coonradt, and two brothers, Stanley and Fred Motsiff.

A Mass of Christian Burial is being offered on Friday, November 7, at 11 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Friday morning from 9 to 10:30 am. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Academy through the funeral home.
