Jean M. Mahar

Hoosick Falls – Jean M. Mahar, 86, of Hoosick Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 31, 2014, at her daughter’s home in Bennington, VT.

ob-maharBorn in Albany, NY, on October 17, 1928, Jean was the daughter of the late John and Nancy (Ghezzi) Bossalini. She was the beloved wife of Leo J. Mahar for 60 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her six children, Susan and husband Harry Hermann of Havertown, PA, Michael and wife Leslie Mahar of Bennington, Mary and husband Brian Peat of Bennington, Elizabeth Cohoon of East Greenbush, NY, Jeanne and husband Richard Clark of Sanford, ME, and Patricia and husband Michael Ryan of Hoosick Falls, her twelve grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Barbara Bossalini, and one niece and two nephews. She is pre-deceased by her brother, Dominick Bossalini.

Jean was educated at Phillip Schuyler High School in Albany and graduated from the College of St. Rose with a B.S. in nursing. She worked at several area hospitals, including St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy, NY, the Veterans Administration Hospital and the Albany Medical Center, both in Albany, as well as the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. She was a member of the Home Bureau and the St. Mary’s Academy Auxiliary, and she was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Jean had a never ending love for her family, friends and country and devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, striving to give them the best of everything. She was an inspiration to all and touched the hearts of everyone who was blessed enough to know her.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Wednesday, November 5, at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Relatives and friends called at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church through the funeral home.
