The temperature was 60 degrees as the Immaculate Conception Church bells rang 33 times to honor those soldiers from Hoosick killed during World War II. The Village fire siren blew, and the American Legion Post 40 ceremony began in Wood Park at 11 am on Tuesday, November 11. [private]Close to 200 people were in the Park as WW II veterans, Korean War veterans and past members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars placed wreaths at the various memorials in the Park. Hoosick Falls Mayor David Borge, Hoosick Town Supervisor Mark Surdam, accompanied by his infant grandson, and Rensselaer County Legislator Stan Brownell all spoke in appreciation of local veterans and their sacrifices and the sacrifices of their families. Brownell reminded everyone that veterans need support more today than ever before.
Sandy Brenenstuhl Libby, a Legion member and Navy veteran was master of ceremonies. The flag was lowered to half staff, a salute was fired and taps was played. A reception at the Legion Hall followed the ceremony
