This certification is recognized as the gold standard in teacher certification and is completely voluntary. He is one of only 104 teachers in New York State to receive certification this year.

Teachers seeking certification must create an extensive portfolio demonstrating their knowledge and professionalism in literacy development, building a learning environment, integrating math and science and contributions to student learning.

In addition, teachers must pass an assessment demonstrating their knowledge of Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Children’s Play, Health Education and Physical Education.

National Board Certified teachers have access to additional workshops and other professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in teaching.

Currently there are three NBPTS certified teachers in the New Lebanon CSD including Breslin, Mary Beth Liles and Ben Long from the Jr./Sr. High School.
