Hoosick Falls – Eva (Kukanskis) Blinstrub, 93, died peacefully at her home on January 6, 2015, after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Walter J. Blinstrub.
Born on June 30, 1921, in Waterbury, CT, Eva was the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Gustaitis) Kukanskis. She was a graduate of Wilby High School in Waterbury and was employed at Tansitor Electronics in Bennington, VT, for twenty years. She was a member of the St. Stanislaw Society Auxiliary and a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, both in Hoosick Falls, NY.
Eva was very proud of her Lithuanian heritage. She was especially fond of animals and enjoyed watching the birds at her bird feeder from her window while she was ill.
Eva is survived by her children – her daughter, Sharon and husband Ralph Davendonis of Hoosick Falls, her sons, Frank J. Melesky Jr. of Celina, OH, Robert and wife Elise Melesky of Eagle Bridge, NY, and Michael and wife Jeanne Blinstrub of Clifton Park, NY, her sister, Esther Plungis of Hoosick Falls, her grandchildren, Lisa Davendonis, Nancy Davendonis, Esther Maroney, Walter Davendonis, Jason Melesky, Mark Melekis, Amy Abulesky, Marci Augustine, Sarah Perkins, Aaron Blinstrub, Frank Melesky III, Joshua Melesky, Casie David and Andrew Melesky, and many great-grandchildren.
Eva is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sally Blinstrub, and her brother-in-law, Robert Blinstrub, along with several nieces and nephews. Eva is pre-deceased by her husband, her son, Peter P. Melesky, her brother, Peter Kukanskis, and her sister, Beatrice Davino.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, January 10, at 10:30 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.
Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Friday from 5 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to either St. Mary’s Academy or the Karen & Molly McGovern Memorial Fund through the funeral home.
Eva’s family would like to acknowledge the devoted care provided by the staff of Hospice of Rensselaer County.
