Jerold A. Strait

Hoosick Falls – Jerold “Jerry” A. Strait, 69, passed away peacefully at his residence after a brief battle with cancer on Friday, January 23, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hoosick Falls, NY, he is the son of the late Ruth and Ralph Strait.

ob-StraitJerry graduated from Berlin Central High School and later obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Oneonta State University. He was employed by the New York State Department of Health for many years before his retirement in 2000.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Ellen Strait, and his children, Jennifer and husband Wayne McMahon, Tracy O’Connor, Stephanie Neaton-McKay and husband Kevin McKay and Colleen and husband Tim Parent, his former son-in-law, Joseph O’Connor, his brother, Bill Strait, and his grandchildren, Noah Melnick, Skye Purzycki, Matthew O’Connor, Emma McKay, Zachary O’Connor, Lindsey O’Connor and Elliot Parent.

Those wishing to remember Jerry in a special way may make memorial contributions in his name to the Ronald McDonald House of Albany, 139 South Lake Avenue, Albany, NY, 12208, or the Double H Ranch, 97 Hidden Valley Road, Lake Luzerne, NY, 12486.

The family would like to thank Pastor Sean Pierce for his guidance and compassion throughout Jerry’s illness.

Memorial calling hours for Jerry were held on Sunday, January 25, from 4 to 8 pm at the Pineview Community Church, Albany. A celebration of his life was held at the Church on Monday, January 26, at 11:30 am. To leave a special message for the family online please visit NewcomerAlbany.com.
