Members of the Rensselaer County Legislature are helping inform residents about upcoming public forums on a major gas pipeline proposed to be routed through southern Rensselaer County.
[private]The pipeline is proposed by Tennessee Gas Pipeline, and would carry gas through areas of the towns of Schodack, Nassau and Stephentown. There is also the possibility of a large compressor station for the pipeline being located in the East Schodack area.
There have been numerous questions from residents in recent days regarding the pipeline project. Legislator Alex Shannon, chair of the Legislature’s Environmental Committee, and Legislator Judith Breselor, a member of the Environmental Committee said forums this month will help inform residents about the proposed pipeline project.
“There have been a lot of questions by residents regarding this project and we encourage residents to attend these forums to learn more about the proposal,” said Shannon.
“Residents have asked about the potential impacts of these projects on the environment, health, safety and quality of life. We are interested in learning more about the proposed pipeline project,” added Breselor.
Tennessee Gas Pipeline, owned by Kinder Morgan, has scheduled an open house for Monday, February 9 at the Green Meadow Elementary School on Schuurman Road in Schodack from 6 to 8 p.m.
Along with the open house on February 9 by the developer of the gas pipeline, a resident group has scheduled a public forum on the proposed project. The public forum will be held Thursday, February 5 at 6 pm at the Stephentown Town Hall on Grange Hall Road. Residents with questions are also encouraged to attend the February 5 public forum.
A January 10 public forum in Nassau on the proposed pipeline project drew a significant audience. A representative of the county Environmental Management Council was there in attendance.[/private]
