Richard Whalen

Hoosick Falls – The Honorable Richard “Dick”  Patrick Whalen, 75, passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 1, 2015, while on vacation in Arizona with his loving wife of forty-eight years, Joyce (McCarty) Whalen. She resides on Wilder Avenue in Hoosick Falls, NY.

Born on March 22, 1939, in Hoosick Falls, Dick was the son of Patrick and Marie (McDonough) Whalen. He attended schools in Hoosick Falls and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Dick maintained a friendship with many local veterans on a weekly basis. Formerly, he was employed at Zak Incorporated in Troy, NY, and retired from Flomatic Valve Company in North Hoosick, NY. Dick was currently a Judge for the Town of Hoosick, a position he had held for many years. He was also the Assessor for the Village of Hoosick Falls, a member of the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation Board of Directors and a member of the Kiwanis Club in Hoosick Falls. His hobbies included watching Fox News, golfing, fishing, Saratoga Race Track and delivering donuts to friends around the Village.

Survivors, other than his wife Joyce, include their son, Kevin Whalen of Hoosick Falls, a sister-in-law, Kay and husband Jack Powers, brothers-in-law, John and wife Irene McCarty and Bill and wife Dayle McCarty, special life-long friends, Gail and Don Morin, and nieces and nephews, Kelly, Matt, Cindy, Diane, Rosemary, Owen, Taylor and Travis. Dick is pre-deceased by a sister-in-law, Elaine Henry.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Monday, February 9, at 11 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Relatives and friends called at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Sunday, February 8, from 2 to 5 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
