Stephentown Martial Arts Students Awarded Black Belts

February 19, 2015 By eastwickpress

The Stephentown Martial Arts Studio run by Sensei Bob Fish awarded various degrees of black belts to a number of people who have been studying in the school. Approximately 20 to 30 people have been attending classes at the Stephentown studio, on Monday nights in the Town Hall.

Sensei Bob Fish said, “On December 27, 2014 I had the honor and privilege of promoting seven people to various degrees of black belt. Bruce Lee once said “There are no limits, there are only plateaus and you must not stay there; you must go beyond them.” Through hard work, commitment, discipline and perseverance, that is exactly what these students have done. Though they have learned much, their journey is not complete. It is a new beginning at another level with more challenges to face and obstacles to overcome. As martial artists we seek physical perfection but the greater goal is to seek perfection of character. My hope is that they continue to strive to meet those goals so they may make a difference in every life that they touch. Let us all continue to grow in grace and knowledge serving God and serving man as that is what we have been called to do.”

John Izzo’s Okinawan Karate Association, Green Island Academy of Martial Arts, and Stephentown Self Defense Systems recognized the accomplishments of the following people:

Alex Bassallo 4th Degree Black Belt

Jess Court 3rd Degree Black Belt

Katherine Court 3rd Degree Black Belt

Patricia Court 3rd Degree Black Belt

Christine Beattie 1st Degree Black Belt

Nathaniel Court 1st Degree Black Belt

Mike King 1st Degree Black Belt

Fish said he wanted to thank Tim Etman, 4th Degree Black Belt and Cassandra Beattie, 1st Degree Black Belt who assisted him during the test, and Sue Court and Deb Angley who provided and served refreshments, and the Stephentown Youth Commission for their continued support and all who have contributed in some small way to make our studio a success.
