Hoosick Youth Baseball Fields Fixed Up In Time For Season Opening

April 30, 2015 By eastwickpress

On a day that was a little cool, but fortunately not nearly as cold as the previous day, the Town of Hoosick Youth Baseball and Softball season opened last Saturday with a parade, local celebrity introductions and games. [private]The parade kicked off at 11 am from Wood Park and all the players, coaches and parents walked to the fields, located off Carey Avenue on Waterworks Road. League president Tony Thayne said about 250 players are participating this season. Southpaw, the Tri-City ValleyCats mascot, was on hand to put a smile on everyone’s face.

During the ceremonies Field #1 was officially opened for play with a ribbon cutting by Jessica Kaszeta, the Tri-City ValleyCats box office manager. The ValleyCats provided much help that was greatly appreciated by the league to prepare the field for the 2015 season with their ‘4 in 24’ Extreme Field Renovation Project. The ‘Cats brought in and helped install new sod, bases, a home plate and pitchers mound, and measured the baselines to the correct specifications.

After the ceremonies game play began on all three fields, which were in excellent condition. Each field has an electronic scoreboard to keep fans informed of the inning and the score. Field #1 has lights for night play.

Another great season is shaping up. If you are looking for something to do, stop down to the fields some evening. Grab a hot dog and a seat, and enjoy some great entertainment. The kids put on a great show.
