Ladies Give Holy Names All They Can Handle

April 16, 2015 By eastwickpress

In an exciting home opener for the HFCS girls lacrosse team, the Ladies gave Holy Names all they could handle.

On an absolutely perfect spring day, the Panthers took a 2 – 1 lead in the first two minutes of the game, and looked like they might cruise to the win. But from then on the teams swapped goals back and forth.[private]

Jordyn Haynes gets a shot off against Holy Names last Monday in the girls lacrosse home opener. Haynes scored five goals.

Holy Names took the lead at 5 – 4 with just under four minutes to the half. Then with 22 seconds until halftime, the Panthers struck and tied it up at 5 all.

When play resumed after the half, Holy Names struck with two quick goals to get a 7 – 5 advantage. But the Panthers kept working and scored the next two goals to even things up at 7 with just over 18 minutes left on the clock. Holy Names got a goal 20 seconds later, but the Panthers came right back to tie at 8 less than a minute later.

Holy Names scored the next two goals to take a 10 – 8 lead, but the scrappy Panthers wouldn’t take no for an answer and got the score back to 10 – 9. Holy Names scored to grab an 11 – 9 lead with just under eight minutes left. The Ladies didn’t like the sound of that, so they came back to score the next two goals and knot the score at 11 all at the 6:20 mark.

The teams traded goals with Holy Names getting the first one and the Panthers getting it back to a 12 – 12 tie. With less than 30 seconds left in the game, Holy Names got one by Panther goalie Zaynah Poore to grab a 13 – 12 lead. The Panthers didn’t have enough time left to put another goal on the board, but it wasn’t for lack of trying.

It was a fun game to watch. The Ladies kept battling back and it made the entire game exciting.

Jordyn Haynes scored five goals. Anna Wysocki, Caytlyn Springer and Ally Burdick each scored two goals. Zahnah Poore recorded nine saves, exactly the same amount as her Holy Names counterpart. [/private]
