Walloomsac – Mrs. Marjorie Stevens, 82, a former resident of Walloomsac, NY, passed away peacefully at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT, on Monday, April 20, 2015, following a long illness.
The daughter of Julia and Art Church, Marge was born on June 2, 1932. She had been employed at the North Bennington Bank and Bennington College. When she became a wife and then a mother to her two sons, she became a homemaker. She loved gardening, canning, pickling, and cooking – especially her wonderful apple pies. Later on, due to an injury and contracting a life-long crippling illness, she was bed-ridden or in a wheelchair for many of the remaining years of her life. During that time, she was lovingly cared for at home by her husband, John and son, Jerry, until she became a resident of CLR almost four years ago. Marge loved playing Bingo at CLR and especially loved listening to Fred Lantz sing! She made many close friends there, including many of the caring and devoted staff.
Marge is survived by her dear husband, John, and son, Jerry; brothers Harold (Joyce), Carroll (Jean), and Robert (Betty) Church; and her daughter-in-law, Dianne. She also had three grandchildren, Eric, Lindsey and Lesley, and a great-grandchild. Lucille Cook and Phyliss Ruggles were two of Marge’s most treasured friends, and Debi Ellis Nailor was like a daughter to her. Marge was predeceased by her beloved son, Larry.
There will be a graveside interment service at Rosewood Cemetery, White Creek, NY, on Thursday, April 23 at 1:30 pm. Friends and family are invited to attend. Later on there will also be a memorial service at CLR, date and time to be announced.
Memorial gifts in Marge’s name may be sent to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth St NW, Washington, DC 20006-3517, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 1 Computer Drive S #104, Albany, NY 12205.
