Walloomsac Fire Destroys Several Structures

April 23, 2015 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley

An April 16 fire destroyed the barns and house of a property on State Route 67 in Walloomsac. The property, located just west of the Bennington Battlefield entrance on the south side of the road, had no immediately available constant water source. A hay barn and large pole barn were completely destroyed. The house, while still partially standing, appears to be a total loss.

[private]The call came in from a passerby traveling Route 67 about 11:30 pm Thursday night. Firefighters fought the blazes through the night, and returned a couple more times days later for rekindling calls.

Fire departments from all over the area contributed to fighting the fires. North Hoosick, Hoosick Falls, Hoosick, West Hoosick, Buskirk, White Creek, North Bennington, Shaftsbury, Pittstown and possibly others, all sent men, trucks and equipment. It was a very impressive display of teamwork and coordination to see all the departments work together.

The fire is being investigated by Rensselaer County Fire Investigators.
