Boy Scout Troop 222 Petersburgh Teams Up With Cub Scout Pack 911 Stephentown For Community Service At Grafton Lake State Park

May 7, 2015 By eastwickpress

submitted by Andrew Zlotnick

Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and their families put in a little community service time at Grafton Lake State Park on Saturday, May 2. Nineteen members of the Troop and Pack met at Deerfield Pavilion on Saturday morning to sign in and get their marching orders. [private]The Troop and Pack were assigned to the blueberry patch on the South side of Route 2, so all the Scouts and their families set off on their mission. It is a carefully guarded secret of the park that we have a beautiful blueberry patch that dates back some 100 years right here in Grafton. The berry patch was very overgrown, with saplings and small trees but the boys and their families worked diligently to clear the bushes from the tangle of scrub growth that has taken over the blueberry patch. The park provided staff to ensure all the volunteers knew how to properly cut out the unwanted growth and how to do it safely. Other than a few scrapes and a few ticks the day was a beautiful blue sky day to work in the blueberry patch.
