New Lebanon – Mrs. Carolyn A. Christensen, 73, passed away on April 27, 2015, at her daughter’s house in Charlotte, NC of complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Mr. Ronald F. Christensen, 73, passed away on May 5, 2015, at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY.
Carolyn was born March 14, 1942 in Manhattan, NY to Richard and Margaret (Torpery) Sweeney. She was a graduate of Northport High School in Northport, Long Island. On October 12, 1965 she married her high school sweetheart, Ronald F. Christensen at St. Anthony of Padua, E. Northport, Long Island, and moved to Upstate NY.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Lebanon, NY. Carolyn devoted her life to taking care of 4 daughters and her husband. One of her favorite pastimes was hosting the annual get together with her dear high school friends and their families, in her upstate NY home. She loved her career at Lenny’s, taking late night swims with her girls, and adored her grandchildren.
Ronald was born August 1, 1941 in Jamaica, NY to Francis and Roselyn (Dilgard) Christensen. He was a graduate of Northport High School in Northport, Long Island. On October 12, 1963 he married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn A. Sweeney at St. Anthony of Padua, E. Northport, Long Island, and moved to Upstate NY.
He became a New York State Trooper in 1962 and served as same until his retirement in 1997. During his life he enjoyed deep sea fishing, cooking and entertaining in his upstate home. Ronald has spent his time since retirement spending time with his grandchildren and traveling.
Survivors include their daughters; Robin Villani of Saranac Lake, NY, Kimberly (Joshua) Rosenbaum of Charlotte, NC, Kelly (Matthew) Dunbar of Manchester, NH, and Ericalyn Glessing of Rochester, MN., their grandchildren Antonio, Lorenzo, and Raechel Villani; Nicholas Rosenbaum and Cailyn, Garin and Mallory Glessing. Other survivors include Cailyn’s brother Richard (Ellen) Sweeney from Manhattan, NY, Ronald’s brothers Francis (Patricia) Christensen of Poughkeepsie, NY, Russell (late Florence) Christensen of San Antonio, TX, and Ronald’s sister Gail (Thomas) Scheurmann of San Antonio, TX.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her oldest brother Thomas. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Relatives and friends were invited to attend a Funeral Mass for Mr. and Mrs. Christensen on Saturday, May 9 at 12:30 pm at the Immaculate Conception Church, 732 US Route 20, New Lebanon, NY with calling from 12-12:30 pm. Their ashes were interred following the mass at the Cemetery of the Evergreens in New Lebanon.
