Hoosick Celebrated Earth Day 2015 All Week, All Around The Town

May 14, 2015 By eastwickpress

Earth Day was Earth Week in Hoosick. All of the local schools as well as HAYC3 celebrated by doing something to help clean up the town and village, and to raise awareness of environmental issues, of the importance of recycling and reusing, and of ways every individual can contribute to creating a heathier planet and community.

[private]Hoosac School students and faculty took command of The Hill Road, picking up litter and trash from Route 7 all the way into the Village. St. Mary’s Kindergarteners studied recycling and made projects that would help people understand the value and effects of recycling. At HFCS, kindergarten and eighth grade reading buddies donned rubber gloves and cleaned up the schoolyard.

HAYC3 reported that more than 300 individuals, families, organizations, businesses and school groups came out for the Love Your Village Clean Up. Groups from St. Gobain, HFCS’s girls lacrosse team and honor society, C.E.O. (Hoosick Falls Family Resource Center), All Saints and Immaculate Conception Churches, St. Mary’s Academy, True Value and the Village of Hoosick Falls all came out to help tidy up the Village and get the HAYC3 Kids’ Garden ready for planting.

The St. Gobain team came out en-masse, as always, in their neon-yellow t-shirts. They worked in several locations around the Village and spent much of their time and energy readying the HAYC3 Kids’ Community Garden on Church Street, even getting some of the planting started. The Village can always count on the C.E.O. contingent to come out and help on Love Your Village. Rod Cody and Alana Jefferson, both of C.E.O., put some muscle into raking and cleaning up around St. Marks Church on Main Street. (Deb Alter photo)
