Have you always wondered why the Battle of Bennington Historic Site is located in New York? Why do some call it the “turning point before the turning point?”   Learn the story of this pivotal battle, which took place in present-day Hoosick and also visit the Battle of Bennington Monument in Vermont, located at a site that British forces never reached thanks to the colonists’ victory in Hoosick!

This multi-state program begins at the Battle of Bennington Historic Site in Hoosick with an engaging telling of the battle’s events offered by Phyllis Chapman at 10:30 am. Then take the driving tour past historic markers significant to the battle, ending at the Bennington Monument in Vermont, where you will hear from their interpreter about the Monument’s history at 12 pm.  The talk will conclude with a demonstration of musket firing, allowing you to hearken back to some of the sounds and sites of this significant battle. Presentations and historic tour maps are free for all participants.

The Bennington Battlefield Historic Site in Hoosick is located off of Route 67 and is open daily from 10 am to 7 pm through Labor Day. The Bennington Monument, located in downtown Bennington, VT, is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm through October.  For program information, please call 279-1155 and ask for Liz Wagner.
