On July 2, the Winter Green-up Committee, Cornell Cooperative Extension Albany County and Black Queen Angus Farm, LLC will host a presentation and pasture walk by famed grazier and Holistic Planning expert, Ian Mitchell-Innes.
Ian Mitchell-Innes is a South African who began high stock density grazing on his operation many years ago in an effort to take his farm into both financial profitability and ecological enhancement. [private] Over the years, Mitchell-Innes has mentored the likes of successful and well-known Missouri grazier, Greg Judy. Judy credits Mitchell-Innes with opening his eyes to the possibilities on his operation and in helping him achieve a livelihood and lifestyle he desired through the use of Holistic Planned Grazing and a willingness to think outside the box.
This event is an attempt by the Winter Green-up Grazing Conference Committee to bring our audience of farmers and agency personnel more opportunities to learn from the cutting edge experts in the field of grazing and livestock management. We hope you will take the time to invest in your grazing education by coming out for this full-day of presentations and pasture walk with Ian Mitchell-Innes.
Both dairy farmers and beef producers as well as sheep and goat producers stand to gain relevant knowledge on the planning and practices that make for a low stress, profitable grazing operation.
Dairy farmers Pam and Rob Moore of Nichols, NY have raved about the help and insights gained from their work with Ian Mitchell-Innes. Also, Tioga County SWCD Engineer, Brian Reaser has worked at Mitchell-Innes’ farm in South Africa as an intern and is implementing what he learned there on his own grazing operation in Central NY State.
The cost of this one-day event is $60 per person or $100 for two people from the same farm. It is well worth the low cost. Lunch is included.
We will be meeting at the Berlin Town Fire Hall, 11 Community Avenue in Berlin at 8:30 am with opening remarks and Ian’s presentation to begin at 9 am. Lunch will be served at noon at the same location, with a pasture walk to follow. The pasture walk portion of the day will be hosted at Black Queen Angus Farm, 630 Green Hollow Road, also in Berlin.
