Stop New York Fracked Gas Pipeline (SNYFGP) will have petitions and letters opposing the Northeast Energy Direct Pipeline Project (NED) for Stephentown residents to sign when they drop their trash off at the Stephentown Transfer Station. [private]The SNYFGP Transfer Station Table is scheduled to be a weekly Saturday opportunity (from 10 am to 4 pm) for residents to weigh-in against the pipeline.
Stephentown residents who oppose the NED will be at the Table to answer questions and there will be information on the NED for folks to take home. In addition, there will be two different petitions to sign; one is directed to New York State elected representatives and officials and the other is directed to federal representatives. There will also be letters directed to Congressman Gibson and U.S. Senators Schumer and Gillibrand.
The petition says, among other things, that the pipeline company is not providing complete and honest answers to residents’ questions, the project poses health risks while property values and the economic climate are likely to suffer, and the project provides no benefit to New Yorkers or New York State. It calls for New York’s federal representatives to take action to prevent the pipeline from being built.[/private]
