Rensselaer County 4-H Fashion Revue

June 25, 2015 By eastwickpress

submitted by Kandis Freer

4-H members from Columbia, Greene, Albany and Rensselaer Counties gathered recently in Valatie for the Annual 4-H Fashion Extravaganza.  This day was dedicated to evaluating sewing and textiles fashion projects as well as teaching and assisting members on how to write commentaries and model their outfits.  The day culminated with a live Fashion Revue where 4-H members walked the runway modeling their sewing and textiles creations.

The following 4-H members did an excellent job representing Rensselaer County and successfully completed projects – Danielle Wilkins, Christina Gladding, Emma Fountain, Kathleen and Gabriella Renna, Ingrid Morton, Eleanor Russell, Eliza Johnson, Maeve Corcoran and Merrill Wrenn.  All members did an outstanding job demonstrating their skills through the quality of their projects.  Sewing requires math, an understanding of textile properties, engineering, hand coordination, an artistic eye, hard work and a great deal of patience.

All of the garments that were constructed showed a high level of quality and reflected the member’s personalities.  Emma, Eliza, Christina, Ingrid, and Merrill were selected to go on to State Fair to showcase their projects in the NYS Fair 4-H Fashion Revue.

A special thanks to the leaders and parents who helped the members along the way with their sewing projects as well as Gretchen Morton and Cindy Johnson who evaluated projects, Jessie Zweig and Tami Seaman for helping members at the commentary station as well as Dan Wrenn who served as a commentary reader!   We can’t wait to see the cool things members will construct next year!
