The Wood Park concert season will open on Wednesday evening June 24 at 7:30 pm with a program by the Stardusters of Hoosck Falls. This “big band” has been performing since its premier in 1975 at a concert at Hoosick Falls Central School. The Stardusters program will feature big band music from all eras. [private] The band is managed by Bill Cottrell (son of founder Cortland Cottrell) and directed by Bill Gaillard. The band is comprised of seven saxophones, three trumpets, three trombones, traps, bass and piano much the same as the bands of the Dorsey and Miller era
The Hoosick Falls Community Band, the continuation of the Van Surdam Band begun in 1873, will begin its eight concert series on Wednesday evening, July 1, at 7:30 pm. Concerts are held in the Henderson S. VanSurdam Memorial Bandstand in Wood park in Hoosick Falls. In the event of rain the concert moves to the skating rink on Griffin Avenue. Concerts are held on Wednesdays from July 1, through August 19.
The Community Band under the directorship of 50 year conductor Bill Gaillard presents a menu of marches, show selections,. overtures and popular selections.
The Community Band will again appear at the Waubeeka Golf Course in Williamstown, on July 19, and lead the Welcome Home Viet Nam Vets parade in Hoosick Falls on August 8.
All are invited to these concerts to enjoy music and food offered by community groups. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the evenings of music. Come early and visit the Farmers Market that will take place before the concerts during July and August. [/private]
