Stephentown – LeRoy A. Wolcott, 88, of Stephentown, NY, died on July 15, 2015 at the Van Rensselaer Manor.
Born in St. Petersburg, Florida, he was son of the late Gerald and Vera Beattie Wolcott. At the age of two, LeRoy moved to Long Island and later moved to West Lebanon, NY where he resided for most of his life before retiring to Stephentown.
[private]LeRoy was the loving husband of Lillian G. (Crookston) Wolcott whom he married on November 14, 1948. Together they shared more than 66 wonderful years of married life.
Over the years, LeRoy held several jobs which included employment with the J.J. Newbury Department Store in Peekskill, NY; working on the family chicken farm; growing four acres of flowers, specifically gladioli for a floral distributor; owning and operating the Lebanon Valley Variety Store, Motel and Gas Station; serving as produce manager at the Lebanon Supermarket and working as the night cleaning supervisor at the Darrow School in New Lebanon.
He was a member of the Church of the Crossroads and enjoyed stamp collecting and playing scrabble.
LeRoy was pre-deceased by his sisters, Lois Germain and Helen Denette.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Reverend Alan G. (and wife Irene) Wolcott of Lenox, Mass; his daughter, Linda (and husband James) Cummings of Stephentown; his grandchildren, Erin Nelson, Christopher Wolcott, Victoria Reed, Kristin Simpson and Benjamin Cummings; great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Lance Nelson, Josephine, Jocelyn and Jesse Cummings, Jacob Simpson and Kira Reed; brothers-in-law, Malcolm Germain of Ballston Lake and William Denette of Washingtonville, NY and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on July 20, in the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home. Reverend Trygve Tomlinson officiated. Interment was private in the Stephentown Cemetery. Donations, in memory of LeRoy A.
