Mark D. Nelson

Petersburgh – Mark D. Nelsen, 63, died on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls, NY.

Mark was born on September 13, 1951 in Queens, NY and was the son of Doris A. Olsen Nelsen of Albany and the late Andrew F. Nelsen.  

[private]A 1969 graduate of Stanford Central High School, Mark attended Morrisville State College where he studied environmental studies.  He was employed by the New York State Department of Corrections for over 27 years and worked at the Coxsackie Correctional Facility and Greene Correctional Facility.  He retired in 2006.

Mark enjoyed traveling; loved reading and was a history buff.  He collected artifacts and had an extensive collection of arrow points.  Mark was a member of the NYS Geological Society and the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association. (NYSCOPBA).

In addition to his mother, survivors include Mark’s brother, Andy (Sally) Nelsen of Lansingburgh; his sister, Susan (Dave Sadowsky) Nelsen of Petersburgh; his niece, Jamie Nelsen and his nephews, Colin Nelsen, Kiel and Sakan Sadowsky.

Family and friends attended a memorial gathering, which  took place on Monday, July 20 at Coxsackie Riverfront Park.
