New Lebanon Salutatory Speech

July 2, 2015 By eastwickpress

by Haley Gubitz

Superintendent Whitcomb, Principal Klafehn, Vice Principal Arket, teachers, family, friends and the Class of 2015. I can’t believe we’re finally here. It’s hard to stray away from the corniness of a graduation speech, so bear with me for the next few minutes. These past six years really seem to have gone by in the blink of an eye. [private]

It seems like just yesterday we were the scrawny seventh graders fighting the locks on our lockers, walking on the “wrong” side of the hallway. We set the paths we would follow by joining the band, the baseball team, and the drama club. Soon enough, we went from clueless freshmen to the upperclassmen who thought they had it all figured out. These were the days Sari and I would measure our time left on the lab tables, counting down what was left until eventual freedom…….then we were probably yelled at for talking.

Suddenly senior year came and it finally hit that it was all we had left with the 40 kids we had grown up with all our lives. And now here we stand, ready to receive our high school diplomas; our invitations to the future. With it, we will move on to college, the military, the work force, and more importantly some awesome graduation parties.

I am truly going to miss this family. I’m going to miss the entire school gathering under the lights for Berlin games; I am going to miss being lost in physics, nodding and pretending to know what Mr. Giumarra is talking about. I’m going to miss Mr. Thompson’s wall of dogs, Harrison’s hips that definitely don’t lie, Zach’s important life lessons in just about anything unrelated to class, Austin’s pranks and Eva’s loudness. And I know that this school will miss us too, because honestly, we were the best class EVER. Thank you to all of our friends, family, and teachers who have helped us to get to where we are today.

Class of 2015, maintain your goofiness, maintain your heart. Congratulations and good luck in all you do, we made it!! [/private]
