Literacy Volunteers Tutor Training To Begin In September

August 13, 2015 By eastwickpress

Would you like to be a volunteer? We can train you. Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County (LVORC) welcomes all kinds of volunteers, from tutors to administrative helpers and event planners. As a volunteer you can develop new skills, make friends, and see how your efforts make a difference in your community.  [private]The Fall 2015 Tutor Training Workshop will begin on September 14 at Faith Lutheran Church. To find out more about tutoring and other ways to help, join us for a one-hour Volunteer Opportunities Information Session at 6 pm on Monday, August 31 at Faith Lutheran Church, 50 Leversee Road, Troy. Call 274-8526 to reserve a space.

LVORC needs tutors to be paired with adult learners, as well as reading mentors for Everybody Wins! Power Lunch, a program where adults serve as positive reading role models for elementary school kids. LVORC is also seeking math tutors, computer tutors, and tutors to help with a financial literacy program at the YWCA. Special events volunteers are needed to help raise much-needed funds which allow LVORC to provide programs and services free of charge.

Since 1968, LVORC has provided Basic Literacy, English as a Second Language, and Family Literacy programs to give people the skills they need to become employed, help their children succeed in school and participate in all aspects of American life..
