Petersburgh Democratic Party Caucus Results

August 27, 2015 By eastwickpress

by Alex Brooks, from information submitted by Denise Jacon Church, Petersburgh Democratic Chair

The Petersburgh Democratic Committee held its caucus on Friday, August 21, to nominate candidates to run for Town offices in the November 3 election.

[private]Three Democrats were nominated as 2015 candidates .  They are Alan Webster (incumbent)  and Dennis Smith for the two Town Council seats.  Also, Amy Manchester (incumbent) was nominated as the Democratic candidate for Town Justice. Councilperson Webster and Judge Manchester will also be listed on the Republication line on Election Day.

Three Republicans were also nominated at the caucus.  These candidates are Peter Schaaphok for Town Supervisor, Rob Cottrell for Highway Superintendent and Emily Harrison for Tax Collector.

Incumbent Councilperson Neil Geary decided not to run for re-election.

All candidates for Town office are cross-endorsed by both Republicans and Democrats except for one of the Town Council seats. Alan Webster is backed by both parties for one of the Council seats, and the other one is contested between Dennis Smith the Democratic nominee and Amy Gutermuth Schaaphok the Republican nominee. Being endorsed by both parties does not guarantee Webster a seat on the Council, though, since the two candidates with the most votes will  be elected, regardless of party endorsements.[/private]
