The Petersburgh Public Library this summer sponsored 26 programs (six in conjunction with the recreation program) with a total attendance of 525 children, teens, and adults. [private]In addition to programs, reading is stressed to help children and teens avoid the “summer slide” when skills can fall back during the summer. There were 45 children, 19 teens and 43 adults who signed up to participate in the summer reading program. (This does not reflect the number of people who use the library, just those willing to do the paperwork to participate in the summer reading program.) Younger children who completed the program read 398 books and older children and teens read 29,122 pages. The library also had 19 prizes donated from library Board members, patrons of the library and library staff. Patrons read 453 books to be entered into the prize raffles. All of the programs and prizes are funded through grants and donations. The library would like to thank Taconic, Hoosick Federal Credit Union, Stewart’s Holiday Match, WGY Christmas Wish Campaign, and Capital Power for helping to sponsor our summer reading program.[/private]
