Shuttle Service Available For H.F. Vietnam Vets Event August 8

August 6, 2015 By eastwickpress

Town of Hoosick Vietnam Veterans’ Event is scheduled for this Saturday, August 8 at Wood Park at 10 am. The event is being sponsored by Voice of a Vet, Heroes at Home and American Legion Post 40. Due to the tremendous response we’ve gotten from Vietnam (Era) Veterans, their families and community members who will be attending the event, we have added a shuttle service to Wood Park from four locations in town.

Please note that there will be some handicap parking next to the Municipal Building along Wilder Avenue adjacent to the park.

[private]Before the Parade

Two HFCS buses will be making a continuous loop, from 7:45 to 9:45 am,  between 1) WCW (over the Shop Bridge), 2) Patire’s car dealership (Church St), 3) HF Community Alliance Church (484 Hill Rd), and 4) the corner of Main and Barton Ave. (park at Athletic Field) – to pick up anyone who would like a ride to Wood Park. With two buses, you shouldn’t have to wait more than 10 minutes for a ride, regardless of which lot you’re parked at.

First pick-up will begin at HFCAC and WCW at 7:45 to accommodate Veterans who are registering between 8 and 9 am. Buses will begin there and pick up at each location along the route.

During the Parade

One bus will continue to transport from WCW to the park after the parade has passed through John Street, assuming there is still room in that lot.

There will be a brief ceremony at the Peace Pole as the parade passes in front of the Hoosick Falls Fire House. We encourage people to attend to honor Vietnam Veterans who were Prisoners of War or Killed or Missing in Action. After the parade passes through that point, buses will pick up from that area and go down Church Street to Wood Park, as the program is scheduled to begin shortly after the parade arrives back at the park.

During the Ceremony

Buses will continue to make the loop and hit all four parking lots until about noon. After that, there should be parking on the street.

After the Event

When you’re ready to leave for the day, go to the “Bus Stop” in front of the Municipal Building and one of the drivers will get you back to your car. If there’s not a bus there, one should be back within 10 to 15 minutes. If you have to be somewhere by a certain time, please allow for that. We cannot guarantee departure times.

If you want to be sure to see the parade, we suggest you get to a parking area early and get your ride in.

Please bear with us as we strive to make accommodations. We will do the best we can to get you where you want to go as expeditiously as possible. If you have any questions, call Gail Smith at 518-686-9888.[/private]
