In 1979, the musical Evita opened on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre starring Patti LuPone as Eva Peron and Mandy Patinkin as Che. It ran for 1,567 performances, and won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Critics hailed it as is a sweeping evening of Broadway entertainment.

Now opening at The Theater Barn in New Lebanon for a two week run, Evita tells the unforgettable story of Eva Peron, who used her charisma and charm to rise from the slums to become the First Lady of Argentina. Adored by her people as a champion of the poor, she became one of the most powerful women in the world. The score includes some of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber’s most beautiful songs, including “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.”
The Theater Barn production stars Joanna Russell and Ryan Burch as Eva and Che with Jonathan Mesisca as Juan Peron. It has an ensemble of 20 singers and dancers. This “must-see” show is directed byAllen Phelps with Vince Ortega as choreographer and Kevin Finn as musical director.
Evita opens at the Theater Barn on August 27 and runs through September 6. Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 4 pm and 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm.
