On Sunday, September 27 at 2 pm, the Cambridge Historical Society & Museum will once again offer a “Victorian Tea” at the Museum on Broad Street in Cambridge, New York. There will be homemade sweets, savories and tea to be enjoyed while watching a live fashion show of reproduction women’s costumes from the 1890s through the 1920s. The theme for this year’s fashion show will be “Downton Abbey Fashion: Gilded Age to Jazz Age.”
[private]Phyllis Chapman, a museum educator, director of Vintage Visitors and a living history presenter, will narrate the show giving stylistic and historic perspectives relating to the period. Background music provided by Mike Chapman will complete the experience, re-creating the ambiance of “Downton Abbey” days. Fans of the PBS miniseries “Downton Abbey,” as well as others who enjoy revisiting days gone by, will have the opportunity to see the radical turnover of style from the hour-glass form of the 1890s, to the Edwardian fashions of the early 1900s, followed by the appearance of the “flapper” of the 1920s. Among the garments shown will be formal wear, sportswear, day dresses and wedding gowns, all with the appropriate accessories.
A check of $15 is required to reserve your place. Reservations will closed as of September 20.
