Gertrude “Judy” Rowe

Sand Lake – Gertrude “Judy” Rowe 85, a long time resident of Sand Lake died on Sunday August 30, 2015 at the Samaritan Hospital after a brief illness. Born in North Adams, MA, Judy was the daughter of the late Floyd L. and Gertrude M. Rock Spencer and wife of the late Chester F. Teal and Henry “Bub” Rowe. Judy had resided in Petersburgh prior to moving to Sand Lake in 1955. Judy had been a Department Manager for the Peerless Co. and along with Henry had owned the former Gifford’s Market at Glass Lake. Judy had been the Sand Lake Historian for many years and was very knowledgable on the history of the towns in Rensselaer County. Judy had written numerous articles on the history of Rensselaer County. She was a member of the DAR Fort Crailo Chapter,  the Sand Lake Baptist Church and the Sand Lake Historical Society.

Judy was the sister of the late Sally Spencer Hathaway and Elizabeth Sheridan Hubbard.

Survivors include her daughter Judith (Milton) Long of Averill Park, three grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends called at the Sand Lake Baptist Church in Averill Park on Thursday September 3 prior to the service, which was held at 10 am.
