HAYC3’s Hoosick Is Illuminated, A Community Art Celebration

September 10, 2015 By eastwickpress

HAYC3 believes that art helps build stronger communities and creates a sense of place.

Light can symbolize many things to different people but for the Hoosick artists who are participating in the Hoosick is Illuminated art project, light brings inclusion and togetherness to a community.

[private]“We at HAYC3 are excited to be able to provide art opportunities for our community without barriers,” said Aelish Nealon, Executive Director.  “These art workshops and experiences are free which makes them accessible to everyone.”

This community-wide public art event encourages everyone to make a lighted project and/or join in the revelry.  The art projects can be varied.  Artists can make handmade paper-mache lanterns or wooden puppets or families can simply decorate a lighted mason jar.  Workshops for both young and old will be held throughout September.

The festivities begin at 7 pm when the Hoosick is Illuminated Parade will take to the streets at 7 pm on Saturday, September 26.  This lighted and whimsical parade will line up at the Athletic Fields and will make its way down Main Street, John Street, and Church Street, ending at the HAYC3 Armory.

After the Parade, community members, with lanterns, flashlights or glow sticks in hand, can pick up a Hoosick is Illuminated Stroll map showing where lighted installations created by the HAYC3 Artist Guild members will be on display throughout the community.  At 8 pm the Buzz Saw Boys will be in the HAYC3 Armory playing foot stomping, acoustic string band music ranging from classic pop stylings to pounding rock and roll. Price of admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children.

At 9 pm, join other lumineers and launch a sky lantern. Sky Lanterns will be on sale on a first-come first serve basis.

To learn more, sign up for a Luminary Workshop or join the parade contact HAYC3 at (518)686-9050, email contactHAYC3@gmail.com or visit the website:  HAYC3.org.[/private]
