Sunday, February 21, 1836: On this evening I and nearly all my family, my wife not excepted, and brother Samuel Beers and wife, we all went to Ephraim Pierce’s to an evening conference meeting. Doctor Right took a very active part in the meeting with great emphasis to the sinner how God was going to torment them in the future state.
[private]Monday: This morning I tended to my chores and got ready for Williamsburgh in Hampshire County in Massachusetts state. About 11 o’clock I started in a cutter with young horse. My wife went with me to Windsor. We called in Pittsfield to brother F. J. Wylie’s and took a little refreshment and brother Wylie went with me to the bank and I got sixty one dollars in silver and thirty dollars in gold half eagles for their bills I handed in, and brother Wylie handed me one hundred and twelve dollars and fifty one cents to fetch to John Wylie and at three o’clock I and my wife went from Pittsfield to Windsor. We got there at sunset to cousin Samuel Minor’s. The snow very deep and the road for one mile after we left the county road was but very little path. Before we got to cousin Minor’s we overtook cousin Minor and another man breaking said path.
Tuesday: On this morning I went from cousin Samuel Minor’s on my journey. I left my wife there on a visit and I left my horse and cutter and walked on account of the snow being so deep and bad travelling with a team a meeting on the road. This morning I started at eight o’clock. I walked on through Windsor through Cummington into Goshen. I called to a private house to rest and got a drink of water and ate a cake I had, and then I went on to Williamsburgh. I got there about five o’clock to the village to Mr. Salmon Clapp’s. There I stayed. First I had supper and then I called for my four hundred dollars note. He got it and reckoned the annual compound interest which was eighty three dollars and fifty six cents and I paid the whole amount, principal and interest and I took up my note. Then said Clapp made me a present of three dollars and fifty six cents on account of I having my money lying on my hands waiting for him to come after it.[/private]
