by Deb Alter

On Saturday night, October 24, tragedy struck Hoosick Falls. Kyle Redden, a 22 year-old resident of Hoosick Falls and Class of 2011 HFCS graduate, was struck and killed by a drunk driver as he was walking home from a party. Redden was taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center by the Hoosick Falls Rescue Squad. He died at the hospital.

[private]The driver, 55 year-old Daniel Harris, also a Hoosick Falls resident, left the scene of the accident. When police found and arrested him, they charged him with aggravated driving while intoxicated. He had a blood alcohol content that was more than twice the legal limit. It was measured at .18 percent. (The legal limit is .08 percent.)

He was arraigned in Village Court and taken to the Rensselaer County Jail without bail. Harris has also been charged with criminally negligent homicide, first degree vehicular homicide, second-degree manslaughter, and leaving the scene of an accident where there was personal injury.

Kyle Redden is the son of Ellen Redden and John Redden. Friends of the family have set up “meal train” to help the family through this difficult time. An event page called “Meal Train for the Family of Kyle Redden” on Facebook has more information.

The Hoosick Falls Police Department were aided at the scene by the State Police Accident Investigation Team, the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office, the Bennington Police Department and the Hoosick Falls Fire Department.[/private]
