Pioneer Fish and Game Club Meets To Elect Officers, Review Year’s Many And Varied Activities

October 15, 2015 By eastwickpress

submitted by Ed Sukuskas

Pioneer Fish and Game Club, Inc. held its 69th yearly election on September 23 at the Club’s grounds in Potter Hill. Ed Sukuskas was re-elected  as president, as were the rest of the nominees: Rodd Post, vice-president; Gary Sargood, secretary; and Dick Ogden, treasurer.

[private]A short meeting was held to review the last year’s activities of the club, such as participation in the annual Outdoor Expo at the Hoosick Falls Central School, help at two fish clinics for children from the city at Grafton Lakes State Park, and another clinic at Frear Park for children from the Troy area.

The Club assisted the D.E.C. in three fish stocking projects, two on the Walloomsac for a total of 5470 Brown Trout and one stocking on the Hoosic River within the Village limit, so access was easy, with 450 rainbow trout. This was the first on the Hoosic since 1979.

Pioneer held two state-mandated hunter training courses, both filled to capacity. There has been construction and maintenance of hundreds of duck boxes since 1946; the Boy Scouts have been a great help with this project. The Club raised and released 188 Manchurian pheasants with the help of one co-operator in the County. The Club was, as always, a major participant at the Conservation Building at the Schaticoke Fair.

After the meeting it was time to enjoy a picnic for the approximately 40 members and their families.[/private]
