Sternberg 5K Race Enjoyed By All

October 1, 2015 By eastwickpress

Sixty runners signed in for the Third Annual Rolf Max Sternberg 5K Race for Vibrant Communities on a beautiful Saturday morning. Some racers ran to win, some ran against their previous times and some walked just to do it. Regardless of why they competed, everyone enjoyed the race. The race followed the prescribed route approved by the Village, starting at the corner of High and Munsell Streets, and ending at Wood Park.

Participants in the race came from as far away as Boston, New Jersey and Washington, DC. There was a good turnout of local racers and many from the surrounding area. Trophies were given for the fastest time and medals were given to the winners in each age category.

The race was sponsored by CiviCure and HAYC3 and organized by CiviCure. Lisa Ferrannini, a HFCS physical education teacher who has helped in previous years was instrumental in helping CiviCure take charge for the first time. Proceeds from the race will benefit CiviCure, whose mission is the revitalization of the Hoosick economy through active stewardship of Hoosick’s rich heritage and rural environs, and the art inspired by them. CiviCure was founded by Rolf Sternberg, for whom the race is named.

Local racer Tyler Rondeau recorded the fastest time of the race for males, with Aimee Beaudette being the fastest female. Winners of the different age categories were: 14 and under, (Males) no entry, (Female) Lilly Abbott; 15-19 (M) Oliver Crawford, (F) Kelly Pine; 20-29 (M) Zachary Scharfstein, (F) Brittany Pine; 30-39; (M) Jon Constantino, (F) Sara Eckhouse; 40-49 (M) No Entry, (F) Elisaha Lyons; 50-59 (M) Bryan Crosier, (F) Jeanne Rogers; 60 and above (M) Jim Stacy, (F) Karen Scharfstein.
