On October 9th through the 11th Boy Scout Troop 222 attended the Twin Rivers Council Fall Camporee held at the raceway. The theme this year was motor sports and auto mechanics. [private]

The boys and their families traveled the hour and a half to reach the speedway on Friday night. Even with the down pouring rain the troop made its way to the camporee and hoped that the rain would let up for the weekend. As luck would have it the weather broke Friday night and was perfect both Saturday and Sunday. The boys set up their tents and equipment Friday night and woke up early Saturday for a day of auto fun.

Some of the scouts worked on an auto mechanics merit badge, while others had fun visiting the race car and other exhibits. The Scouts were able to learn about engine repair and maintenance, racing and other traffic safety related fields while at the Camporee.

Price Chopper, the Fultonville Sheriff’s Department and the NYS Police were there exhibiting the “No Zone Truck, State Police patrol cars and the State Police Rollover simulator along with the Sheriff’s K-9 officer and his dog”.
The Scouts were also treated to a rock climbing wall provided by the NYS National Guard,

a soda bottle rocket launching station, and an arc welding demonstration that included actually welding on metal. The scouts had a great time camping, cooking and learning all weekend long.
If you are a boy between 11 and 17 and might be interested in joining scouting please stop by the PVMCC in Petersburgh on any Monday night and see what Boy Scouting is all about. You can also contact Andrew Zlotnick at 658-9066.
