Dewey M. Brownell

Hoosick Falls – Dewey M. Brownell, 87, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Gertrude (McLean) Brownell who died on June 24, 2006.

[private]Dewey was born on February 29, 1928, in Cambridge, New York son of Stuart and Ella (Waters) Brownell. As a child Dewey worked on his parents farm. He later entered the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict from 1955 to 1957. He then worked for Wood Flong in Hoosick Falls, Salem Farm Supply, and the Town of Hoosick Highway Department as an Equipment Operator until retiring. He was a member of the Tri-State Antique Tractor Club, Pioneer Fish and Game Club, and the North Hoosick Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially hunting deer and turkeys. Dewey liked to go camping with his family and going to antique tractor pulls. For many years Dewey also enjoyed going to his granddaughters’ soccer, basketball and softball games.

Survivors include his sons Dennis (Debbie) Brownell of Eagle Bridge and Dean (Audrey) Brownell of North Hoosick, his grandchildren Leslie, Jean and Lynn Brownell, all of Eagle Bridge.

Funeral services were Wednesday, November 25 at 10 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial followed the service at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the North Hoosick Fire Department or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.[/private]
